Road and toll records tell us a tremendous amount about our ancestors. They fill in gaps by providing information that might not be found in the usually explored governmental records. Best of all, they help you learn about those living closest to your ancestors – their FAN Club (Friends, Associates, and Neighbors). Focus on North Carolina: Finding and Understanding Lord Granville Grants – Unique to NC
From 1748 to 1777 all land grants in the upper half of NC were issued by Lord Granville instead of the Colonial government. Although similar to Colonial grants, they require different techniques for finding and understanding them. They can also yield valuable information not found elsewhere.
